Close-up of the curly edges of the soft, fine fabric that go to make up the seven layers of the head dress. Copyright (c)2016 Paul Alan Grosse The end of one of these layers as it drapes over her left shoulder. You can also see how the gold part of the brocade is made up from a ground that has had several grades of gold shadow-to-highlight added, then toned down with a dark, neutral wash and then more highlights added to it in order to break out of the shadow. Close-up of the brocade pattern on her upper-right arm, showing how the pattern follows the folds of the cloth and how the highlights in the gold silk are prepresented by strokes of different colours.
